Quan Bui's persistence to look for a pole dancing teaching job in his country finally paid off, spending a few years teaching pole dancing in Vietnam.
Great talent never goes unnoticed, so after a few years teaching pole in Vietnam, at 21, he got a pleasant surprise - an invitation to teach in Singapore! He never thought he would ever go to another country for pole dancing, and paid well at that. He got invited to work as a go-go dancer in a night club (although illegally). Still, he accepted because he thought of saving up and helping his family, and worked about 3-4 times there.
This gig apparently opened more doors for him as he got invited to a pole dancing competition, Pole Star Malaysia 2014. Though exciting, he thought about his father because he has been hiding this from him for about 5 years now. His brother and sister (who lived in another country) knew, but they did not support him because to them, he was still a kid. For them, he needs to finish high school and get a job.
So he thought, If he wins Pole Star Malaysia, he will email his father and tell him the truth. So he prepared heavily for this competition – and he did win! He won three titles in the Semi-Professional category, here was his winning performance:
He was excited about winning but nervous at the same time, because he felt it was time to tell his dad.
He emailed him shortly after winning, telling him – that all this time his father thought he was in school, he was actually building his pole dancing career and he just won a competition (no they were not connected on Facebook, they only connect through email or an occasional phone call).
After he sent his email, he did not hear from his dad, and made Quan worried and scared.
But two days later, he got the most pleasant surprise – his dad emailed back and said he is proud of him and no matter what he will do, his dad will always be with him and will support him. It was a huge relief as it was like a huge weight off his chest.
