  • Quan Bui: His Inspiring Pole Dancing Journey Part 1

    August 31, 2020 2 min read

    Male pole dancer Quan Bui

When we think of pole dancing, we think of those oh so flexible, graceful females who move around the pole with so much expression and fluidity.

Well, seeing Quan Bui, a pole dancer from Vietnam, makes your jaw drop with admiration and disbelief. Who would ever think that a male pole dancer can be so good that he will give the female counterparts “a run for their money?”

Watching him move with such grace and finesse makes you think this has been easy for him. But as a male moving in a predominantly female world, it wasn’t easy – at least not when he started. So how did he get started into pole dancing?

Quan Bui's Beginnings in Pole Dancing

His fascination with the pole started when he was 16. Together with a friend, he went to a club and was in awe seeing all the girls romancing the pole with such ease and sexiness. He enjoyed watching them and thought it was fun and wanted to try it right there and then.

But there was one thing; he was – and still is – the shy type. So what he did was get drunk and thought maybe “I won’t be too shy and try pole dancing if I do get drunk.”

So drink and pole dance he did and enjoyed himself. He went home happy and thought it was fun – until his friend told him he moved “like a monkey” around the pole! He was so embarrassed, although he did have fun.

Not ready to give up, he started to look for a pole studio for some classes. In comes another hurdle – there was no studio he could find offering classes – not in Ho Chi Minh where he lived.

Pole dancing was not popular at that time, so the nearest classes he found were in Hanoi, north of Vietnam and too far for him. So, he initially had to be content with watching YouTube videos for the next few weeks. What happened next proved exciting as it was starting to bring him closer to his passion. Watch for part 2!
