    April 27, 2021 3 min read

A pole trick visual guide showing a female dancer doing the leaning lotus pole move, wearing Super Fly Honey sticky fishnet leggings.

The Leaning Lotus pole move is an intermediate pole dance trick that involves both upper and lower body strength, particularly at your arms, elbow, and legs.

Don’t forget to stretch your body out before trying out this pole trick. Here’s a great Upper Body Pole Conditioning Tutorial to prep your body for this move.

We go step by step on how to achieve this pole trick. To watch the tutorial, scroll down below.

Entry: Chopper or V Invert Pole Move

For this move you start off by doing a chopper pole move or also known as a v-invert.

Transition 1: Outside Leg Hang > Crush Grip and Knee Hook

    1. While in chopper invert, hook your outside leg at top to move into an outside leg hang pole move.
    2. With your upper arm, crush grip the pole above your knee to pull your upper body up.
    3. As you pull your body up, reposition your free hand on the pole to push your body away so that you can hook your inner leg to the pole.

Transition 2: Elbow Grip > Leg Extension > Back Ankle Grip

    1. When you are comfortable with your grip in your knees, release your upper hand and position it through your thigh and pole so that you can grip the pole with your elbow.
    2. With your lower hand, push your body away from the pole to move and extend your lower leg downwards. Position your leg vertically so that your ankle is placed against the pole.

Transition 3: Split Grip > Ankle Hold > Leaning Lotus

    1. When comfortable with your position, reposition your free hand lower on the pole in a split grip also known as a bracket or true grip. This is where your hand is wrapped around the pole with the index finger pointing down to the floor.
    2. In this position, push your body so that you can lift your lower leg up.
    3. Grab your ankle with your inner hand.
    4. Release your upper knee hook to extend your leg upwards to get into the leaning lotus pole move.

Fran has tried different sports in life, but she eventually realized nothing compared to pole dancing. Pole dancing was love at first sight for her. With each achievement in the classes she went to and with each step forward, Fran has found herself trying new shapes, new tricks, and new challenges. Fast forward to now, she still loves pole dancing as much as she did then. According to Fran, pole dancing is never boring! She loves to be able to express her creativity on the pole plus the community is wonderful.

Her number 1 tip for someone trying out pole dancing? “Just have fun!” Don't worry if it seems difficult at the beginning, it will be even more difficult as you progress. BUT! You will be amazed at how strong you’ll become. Give yourself the chance and time, and you’ll see what wonders your body can do. 💜
