  • Pole Trick Tutorial: Floating Flamingo

    May 03, 2021 2 min read

A pole trick visual guide showing a female dancer doing the floating flamingo pole move, wearing Super Fly Honey sticky fishnet leggings.

Floating Flamingo is a beginner-intermediate trick that makes a beautiful shape on the pole. Just like a flamingo, long and elegant, this flamingo variation pole move involves lifting your body up with the strength in your arms and legs.

We go step by step on how to achieve this pole dance trick. You can also scroll down below to watch the full video tutorial.

    Floating Flamingo

    Entry: Basic Climb

For this move you start off by climbing up the pole into a flamingo pole move.

Transition 1: Flamingo and Scissors Grip

    1. Position your body into the flamingo (one leg across the pole, the other leg extended down, and body bent to the side.) Your body grip point will be your inner thigh.
    2. Reposition your lower arm so that your hand is placed above your foot in a scissors grip.

Transition 2: Elbow Grip, Knee Grip, and Leg Extension > Floating Flamingo

    1. Reposition your upper arm so that it goes through your bent leg and grabs your other arm at elbow level. Your arm and elbow should be gripping your knee securely.
    2. Once in a secure position, release your bent leg from the pole and lift it towards your body. You should feel an additional grip between your knee and elbow.
    3. When comfortable with the balance of your body and your grip points (lower hand, elbow, knee, and inner thigh), release your other leg from the pole and extend upwards to position your body into a floating flamingo.

    Our Instructor, Francesca

Francesca is a pole dance instructor from Italy. She’s been pole dancing for eight years and teaching for three years, both in a studio and online. You can book an online class with her here.

Fran has tried different sports in life, but she eventually realized nothing compared to pole dancing. Pole dancing was love at first sight for her. With each achievement in the classes she went to and with each step forward, Fran has found herself trying new shapes, new tricks, and new challenges.

Fast forward to now, she still loves pole dancing as much as she did then. According to Fran, pole dancing is never boring! She loves to be able to express her creativity on the pole plus the community is wonderful.

Her number 1 tip for someone trying out pole dancing? “Just have fun!” Don't worry if it seems difficult at the beginning, it will be even more difficult as you progress. BUT! You will be amazed at how strong you’ll become. Give yourself the chance and time, and you’ll see what wonders your body can do. 💜
