    Started pole dancing lessons yet? Then you will surely begin to feel its benefits, like better strength and coordination and the release of happy hormones after every routine.

    1.      Change Your Perception

    Many times, it is our mindset that holds us back from success. If we think that we cannot do it, if we believe it’s too difficult, then our body will not perform. One famous actor said, “Where the mind goes, the body will follow,” - this is so true! If you visualize how you want to be as a pole dancer, then your actions will respond to your vision.

    Instead of telling your mind that the moves are too hard, too complicated, or that you’re not strong and flexible enough, just think that you can make it! Complicated but can be studied. Not strong and flexible enough, but getting there.

    Changing the way we think is already half the battle. When overcome, the discouragements and failures that we encounter along the way will be nothing but lessons that we learn and apply to become better at our craft.

    2.      Improve Your Form and Posture

    To help you move gracefully and smoothly on the pole, you must be mindful of how you carry yourself. Always check how you sit and stand so that your bones and muscles are kept in excellent form.

    Having body awareness is essential if you want to be conditioned for training. If you’re aware of your posture, then you can ensure that you’re always in the correct position.

    An improved form and posture will help you in the long term, as it not only betters your pole fit but also enhances the flow of blood, helps prevent aches and pains, avoids injuries, and improve your overall well-being.


    3.      Condition Your Body

    Pole dancing, like any other sport, is a strenuous activity. Just like any athlete, you don’t just dive into athletics without preparing yourself. Baseball and basketball players don’t just play ball and bat around – you also see them jog and run around the field, they conduct calisthenic exercises, and even workout at the gym.

    They do all those activities to keep themselves in top condition. Their training routine improves their performance by conditioning all of their muscle groups and other systems.

    As a pole dancer, building your upper body strength is not enough. You need to improve your lower body strength, as well as increase your cardio endurance. When you’re body is in condition, then you can perform to the best of your abilities.

    4.      Stretch and Warm-Up

    Before you conduct start dancing on the pole, a good stretch and warm-up is a must. Stretching will help loosen tendons and muscles, making you more flexible during your training session. The increased blood flow to your muscles will also prepare them for your training session.

    When you conduct these pre-training activities, your muscle temperature and heart rate will increase gradually. The steady rise helps prevent additional stress on both your heart and body, giving them time to adjust to your active state and help avoid aches and pains midway through training.

    5.      Document Your Progress

    Whether you’re practicing home pole dancing or doing it in the studio, many professionals recommend that you record your sessions. When you have videos of your performance, you can review these after you dance on the pole to see your improvement points.

    You can use your recordings to see how you execute different positions, what changes you need to make, and so that you can visualize your movements even without a mirror.

    6.      Attend Regular Class

    Doing a task correctly, over and over again, is the only way that you can be proficient in it. The professionals, teachers, and experts in any field have amassed hundreds, if not thousands, of hours of experience through practice.

    And although it might be challenging to start at times, we must overcome ourselves to be the best pole dancer we can be.

    8.      Don’t Forget to Recover

    After a strenuous pole dancing session, don’t forget to let your body recover. Treat yourself! Go to a spa, have a massage, enjoy your favorite meal. While practicing your craft is essential, you should also take the time to relax and unwind.

    Don’t be burnt out from what you’re doing. Make sure that you take a holistic approach in caring for your physical and mental health. Allow your muscles to restore its energy before engaging the pole again. Let your heart get a slow and steady pace for a day or two before you get it pumping again while your high up the pole.

    9.      Switch Sides

    Everyone has a side of the body that they prefer – but whether you’re a lefty or a righty, you should learn how to dance on your non-dominant side. This lets you build strength on it, as well as giving you more variations for your craft.

    When you can dance around the pole with either side of your body, you’ll open up more moves, make yourself more flexible, and you can even execute more advanced positions.

    10.    Explore, Enjoy, and Celebrate How Far You’ve Come

    Explore the different styles and movements that are available. Don’t limit yourself to your classes. You are open to finding other ways of pole dancing, and as long as you have proper guidance, you can even make a style of your own.
